This privacy policy covers Tip (package com.coroutinelab.tip). The app is developed by PhomoTech and published by CoroutineLab ("we", "us"). Tip is a focus timer that turns your phone into an hourglass: flip the phone to start the sand, lay it flat to pause, and shake it to reset.
This policy explains what data the app handles, where it is kept, and your choices. We wrote it in plain language so it is easy to understand.
The short version
- Your focus history, tags and settings stay on your phone. We never see them.
- Tip sends anonymous usage events to our analytics provider, PostHog, so we can see which features are used and fix what is not working. These events are tied to a random ID, not to you, and you can turn them off in the app’s settings.
- There is no account and no sign-in. We never ask for your name, email or phone number, and we never send anything you type, such as tags or commands.
- Tip has no advertising and no crash reporting, and we never sell or share data for advertising.
What stays on your phone
Tip keeps the following data in a database on your device only:
- Your focus session history: when each session ran, how long it lasted, whether it finished, and any tags you added.
- Your settings, such as glass size, sound, haptics and control preferences.
- The hourglasses you have unlocked and the one you are using.
We cannot see this data, and it is never sent to us or anyone else.
What leaves your phone
Anonymous usage analytics. When you use Tip, it sends short usage events to PostHog, an analytics service we use. An event records an action, for example that the app was opened, a glass was started, paused, finished or ended early, or the history screen was opened. Events can include:
- Details of the action: the glass length in minutes, how the glass was started (flip or tap), the number of stages, how many tags were set (not the tags themselves), the hourglass style, and whether a setting such as Hardcore was on.
- A random ID that Tip creates on your phone. It is not linked to your name, email, phone number, Google account or advertising ID.
- Basic technical information: app version, device model and manufacturer, operating system version, screen size, language, time zone and network type.
Tip never sends your session history, tag names, command text or anything else you type. PostHog stores the events in the European Union. Our PostHog project discards your IP address when an event arrives, so it is not stored with the event. PostHog processes this data for us under its own data processing terms and does not use it for its own purposes.
Export and share. If you use the export or share features, Tip writes a file or a story image and opens the share sheet. It goes only to the app or person you pick, and that app’s own privacy policy then applies.
Why we use analytics
We use these events only to understand how Tip is used, for example which glass sizes are popular and where people stop during onboarding, so we can improve the app. Where the law requires a legal basis (for example under the GDPR), we rely on our legitimate interest in improving Tip. We do not use the data for advertising, we do not build profiles of you, and we do not sell it.
Permissions and why we ask
- Motion sensor (accelerometer): Used to detect when you flip the phone, lay it flat or shake it, and to move the sand. Sensor readings are processed in memory while the app runs and are never stored or sent.
- Notifications and foreground service: Used to show a live timer notification while a glass is running, so the timer keeps going when you leave the app.
- Vibration: Used for haptic feedback, such as the flip detent and the final-minute ticks.
- Internet and network state: Used only to send the anonymous usage events described above.
Tip does not ask for or access your contacts, camera, microphone, location, photos or files.
Links to other apps and websites
Tip contains links to other CoroutineLab apps and to our website. These open in your browser or in Google Play, and those sites and services have their own privacy policies.
Backups
If standard Android backup is turned on for your phone, Android may include Tip’s local settings and session history in your Google account backup so you can restore them on a new device. Google manages this backup, and you can change it in Android Settings.
Your choices
- Clear Tip’s data at any time in Android Settings → Apps → Tip → Storage.
- Uninstalling the app removes all of its session history and settings from your device.
- Turn off usage analytics at any time in Tip under $ config → --analytics. While it is off, Tip sends no usage events, and on Android any events still waiting to be sent are dropped.
- Clearing Tip’s storage or uninstalling also deletes its random analytics ID. Tip then starts with a new ID that is not connected to the old one.
- Turn off notifications for Tip in Android Settings if you do not want the live timer notification.
How long we keep data
Data on your phone stays there until you clear it or uninstall the app. We keep anonymous usage events only as long as they help us improve Tip, and then delete them. If you email us, we keep that conversation only until your request is resolved.
Deleting your data and your rights
Clearing the app’s storage or uninstalling it deletes your session history and settings completely. Usage events are linked only to a random ID, so we cannot tell which events came from you. If you want them deleted, email us and we will help. If you have questions about your privacy, contact us at admin@coroutinelab.com. Depending on where you live (for example the EU/EEA, UK or California), you may have specific rights about your personal data.
Children
Tip is a general-audience productivity app and is not directed to children under 13 (or the age of digital consent in your region). Tip does not ask anyone, including children, for personal information, and its usage analytics are anonymous.
Security
Your session history and settings are stored in Tip’s private app storage, which other apps cannot read, and are never sent over a network. Usage events are sent to PostHog over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If a future version of Tip collects any new kind of data, we will update this policy before that version is released.
